You start out, when they are babies, by being 100 per cent competent in caring for them. As they grow, you begin to lose some skills. By the time they are in seventh grade, you have forgotten how to do algebra. They can't even count on you to remember to wake them up for school. You Vacate the Competency Slot, thus allowing them to move in and play the Competency Role.
